Can't Stop Thinking I NEED This Banner

Do you ever get what my mom always calls, THE WANTS? I think I have THE NEEDS...as in I need this banner soooooo badly that I keep going to the website to see if one is still in stock! Last summer I made an oilcloth pillow and it is kind of lonely there on the porch swing. This banner would keep it company and I'd be cured of this terrible affliction!
Check out modernjune on etsy.com for one of these...if you feel the NEED! It is contagious!

Kitchen Remodel...Am I going to miss you?

I've made the decision to do some minor remodeling in my kitchen. The biggest change is going to be my countertop. The red formica is being replaced by a solid surface product designed to look like soap stone. I have loved the red...but it is time for a change. At least, I think it is...what if I don't like it? YIKES!

I spent hours in Home Depot and Lowe's looking at samples, I've looked at hundreds of magazine pictures...and finally decided on the solid surface with an undermount sink. My BIL has painted the cabinets and started replacing the hinges and knobs. We decided to keep our 30 year old GE Americana stove. We love it! The upper oven is awesome! We did find a supplier and replaced a couple of the burners. We are still trying to decide on the backsplash. I think we are leaning toward beadboard that will match the ceiling...but will that be too much of a good thing? The other option is recycled ceiling tin. Decisions....decisions.... :)

These are the before pictures. It will be three to four weeks before the countertop comes in.

The Wine is Chilling

This week we had a wonderful treat... SNOW and lots of it! The bottle tree looked really pretty covered in snow.

The "wine is chilling" has taken on an entirely different meaning! This was a fun project and I smile every time I look out into our backyard. The post is cedar and is buried it several feet into the ground. We drilled holes into the post and inserted short lengths of pvc pipe that had been spray painted to blend in. Next, we started drinking wine! When our friends learned of our project, we'd find empty bottles on our porch. We'd scrub the labels off and pick just the right spot for each bottle.

Thank goodness for thirsty friends!

Perfect Fit

My friend Susan has been doing some updating and remodeling. She was ready for a change, and she is of the mindset that is better to give to friends and family than to sell to strangers! That is how I became the proud owner of this cute sofa and wicker chair! It fits perfectly on my sun porch and every time I sit on it...I bless Susan's little heart! I love it!!!

Promise of Spring

When my paper whites did not bloom at Christmas, I was sad. I just didn't get them into dirt soon enough. This weekend they are in full bloom and they seem to be saying...better late than never! I cut some rosemary to keep the paper whites company and the sweet aroma is filling the house. Hurry up Spring!!!

Beautiful Burlap

I'm loving the look of my new burlap drapes. Now, I must admit, ironing the little rascals took some time and effort, but the finished result is just what I wanted. The old brass house letters add a little whimsy. I picked the brass letters up one Saturday morning at a thrif store....I knew there was a spot for them somewhere! My BIL always asks me what I'm going to do with my found treasures. And, my answer...you'll see!

You can find your own pair of burlap drapes at Ballard Designs.
